Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing This site is the primary international advocate for oral education for hearing-impaired children. Offers information and referral for schools, early identification, education opportunities, etc. Parents Section is committed to extending emotional support and information to families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Must be a member for most services. Membership fees vary. Also provides an interactive website for teens with hearing loss: http://www.agbell.org. This organization provides various scholarships for all ages.

The Army Exceptional Family Member Program - To consider the special medical and/or educational needs of the soldier's family members during the assignment process.  In addition, to assign the soldier where the facilities and required services are available but where the needs of the Army can be satisfied.

National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF)
The NAAF supports research to find a cure or acceptable treatment for alopecia areata, supports those with the disease, and educates the public about alopecia areata. Provides information and referrals and supports local support groups.

American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities - AAIDD promotes progressive policies, sound research, effective practices and universal human rights for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Alliance for Technology Access -  National Administrative Office. The Alliance for Technology Access (ATA) is a network of community-based Resource Centers, Developers, Vendors and Associates dedicated to providing information and support services to children and adults with disabilities, and increasing their use of standard, assistive, and information technologies. ATA Members can be found all across the country. 

The ALS Association is a national not-for-profit health agency dedicated solely
to the fight against ALS through research, patient and community services,
public education, and advocacy. ALSA helps patients and families cope with the
day to day challenges of living with ALS by providing information, resources,
and referrals to many sources, including a wide variety of community services.
ALSA's 40 chapters provide localized patient and family support in communities
across the country. Our nationwide network of 19 certified ALS clinics -- ALSA

American Academy of Pediatrics Provides informational services to parents including a resource guide, child care books,
immunization information, and more. The Academy also provides the Medical Home
Initiatives, a center for children with special needs. The center provides
support to pediatricians, families, and other medical and non-medical providers
who care for children with special needs in the changing health care
environment.

American Brain Tumor Association This organization offers information, education, advocacy, research funding and more, for individuals with any kind of brain tumor, and their
families/caregivers. The website has an extensive list of resources for
education and support, such as local support groups, online support resources,
and tumor and treatment information.

American Cancer Societiy The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by
preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through
research, education, advocacy, and service. Local chapters offer information/
referral, support groups, and transportation to medical appointments.

American Council of the Blind (ACB) – National
The ACB serves as a representative national organization of blind people.
Provides information and referral services for the blind throughout the
country. Also provides scholarship assistance to blind/visually impaired
post-secondary students. The organization is also an advocate and provides
legal assistance on matters relating to blindness. The Braille Forum, a free
monthly national magazine, is available for anybody interested. It may be

American Institute for Cancer Research American Institute for Cancer Research
Cancer charity that fosters research on diet and cancer prevention and educates
the public about the results. Offers information on diet, reducing your risk,
recipes, upcoming events, links to health sites, and foods that fight cancer.

American Kidney Fund  AKF offers a host of programs to our smallest patients including the Individual Pediatric Patient Grants Program, Kidney Calendar Contest and Washington D.C.
Weekend, the AKF Summer Enrichment Program, and a Public Education series
designed just for kids. Direct financial assistance programs are offered by the
American Kidney Fund to needy dialysis and kidney transplant patients
nationwide. For further information about these and other programs please

American Liver Foundation (ALF) - National.  A national volunteer organization providing education, advocacy and a support network for people with liver disease, their families and health care professionals. Services include referrals to support groups for individuals
with hepatitis, liver transplantation and other liver-related diseases.

Ameritrans Ameritrans provides long distance non-emergency, stretcher transportation throughout the United States for individuals of all ages. There is a 350 mile minimum for our services. A family member or another person can ride with the transported individual at no additional charge. Ameritrans does not provide medical care during transport. We do use licensed paramedics and EMT’s because of their training and experience in transporting patients and conducting themselves within the healthcare arena. We operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Amputee Coalition of America (ACA) is a national, non-profit amputee consumer educational organization representing people who have experienced amputation or are born with limb differences. The ACA operates the National Limb Loss Information Center (NLLIC), which provides comprehensive resources for people with limb loss, as well as their families, friends, and health care professionals involved in their lives.  Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation Inc.  Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation is the oldest and largest patient advocate and support organization for aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH), and other bone marrow failure diseases, providing educational materials, medical information, and peer support. The Arc The Arc is the world’s largest community based organization of and for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It provides an array of services and support for families and individuals. The Arc’s network of chapters includes programs and supports across the lifespan: early intervention, access to a free appropriate public education, transition from school to work, health services and health promotion, income maintenance, group and independent living, recreation and aging issues.

The Arthritis Foundation -  National The Arthritis Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organization that supports the more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions with advocacy, events and programs, medical information, and research.
 

Autism Society of America -  National National website for the Autism Society of America. Provides information on autism, events, brochures and materials. There is a nationwide online directory of ASA Chapters, professionals, government resources and service providers. Also awards college scholarships to individuals with Autism. Barth Syndrome The Barth Syndrome Foundation is the only group in existence globally in which families, physicians and scientists work together to address Barth syndrome – a rare but serious X-linked recessive disorder comprised of cardiomyopathy, neutropenia, skeletal muscle weakness, exercise intolerance, extreme fatigue and growth delay (in varying degrees). Cancer Fund of America Non profit organization set up to help cancer patients, hospices and other healthcare providers by way of sending nutritional items, diapers, bed pads and other items free of charge directly to them. Cancer Fund requires an application for assistance be completed and mailed to them, including patient information as well as a Physicians Form verifying the cancer diagnosis. CARE Hawaii, Inc. - A Mental Health Agency that serves people with mental illness, developmental disabilities and addiction.  They also help with crisis intervention.

Caring Voice Coalition This charitable organization was established to serve the comprehensive needs of individuals of all ages affected by serious, chronic disorders. Services include financial assistance to pay a portion or all of a patient's insurance premium or copay; insurance education and counseling; and information and referral for medical assistance, medications, support groups, and locating community social service programs that may assist with living necessities such as shelter, clothing, food, and transportation. The patient must have one of the specific chronic illnesses supported by Caring Voice Coalition - check the website for a list of illnesses.

 Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD) – National
CHADD's primary objectives are: to provide a support network for parents and caregivers; to provide a forum for continuing education; to be a community resource and disseminate accurate, evidence-based information about AD/HD to parents, educators, adults, professionals, and the media; to promote ongoing research; and to be an advocate on behalf of the AD/HD community. CHADD also operates the National Resource Center on AD/HD, which is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There is a small annual fee for family membership, but information on the website is open to the public.
 

Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation Provides an array of information and resources to assist in accessing expert care to ensure quality of life for a child with a brain or spinal cord tumor. Provides information support groups, hospital stays, going home, school issues, and helpful resources with current up-to-date information. Sponsors a week at Camp Sunshine for families with children who have a brain or spinal cord tumor. Children’s Hemiplegia & Stroke Association  A non-profit organization offering information, counseling, and support to families of children with Hemiplegia, Hemiparesis, Cerebral Palsy, and prenatal/infant/childhood stroke. Provides an e-mail support group, hosts an annual retreat and medical conference for these families, supports local activities, and provides college scholarships. Children’s Hospice International Promotes hospice support through pediatric care facilities, and encourages the inclusion of children in existing and developing hospice and home-care programs. CHI offers the following services: resources and referrals for children with life-threatening conditions and their families, help with establishing children's hospice programs worldwide, and education and training for health care providers.

Serves emotional, educational, and financial needs of families coping with childhood liver disease and transplantation. Offers telephone help line, financial aid for families, and parent matching program to link families for friendship, information, and mutual support.

Children’s Organ Transplant Association
The Children's Organ Transplant Association assists patients who require a life-saving organ, bone marrow, cord blood or stem cell transplant. The Association works with any patient who needs a transplant due to a genetic disease such as Cystic Fibrosis, and all patients 21 and younger for any disease or complication, providing fundraising assistance and family support and educating the public on the need for organ donors and transplants.

Community Children's Council Office - Provides statewide support and assistance to the Community Children's Councils (local community groups formed to help develop and evaluate the system of care mandated by the Felix Consent Decree).  Also facilitates information and communication exchanges between the community and State agencies.

Corporate Angel Network, Inc.
Provides free air transportation for cancer patients to and from recognized treatment centers in the United States without regard to their financial resources. The organization arranges for patients to use empty seats on corporate aircraft operating business flights. Qualifications are: Needing to travel for treatment, consultation, or check-up; able to walk up the stairs of a private jet without assistance; requiring no form of life support or medical help on board. To make arrangements patients caregiver calls to register when there is a specific travel date. Requests can be taken up to three weeks in advance. Information needed includes: name, address, and telephone number of current physician. Airline makes back-up travel arrangements.

A professional organization serving special education administrators. Promotes professional leadership and research, and information to improve special education and other services.
 

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
CEC is a professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for children students with disabilities. This information helps the teachers, administrators, parents, and paraprofessionals of the child with disabilities. They convey this through journals, newsletters, and the Web with information on new research findings, classroom practices that work, federal legislation, and policies, conventions and conferences, and special education publications. Each year, the council awards 27 students who have excelled despite their disability.
 

Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA)
This is an online nonprofit organization of attorneys, advocates and parents working together to ensure educational services for children with disabilities. Using volunteerism and the Internet, COPAA promotes an environment of "collaboration as equals" between parents and educators, through parent training programs, support, publications and communications. COPAA does not provide direct legal services, individual advocacy or representation to children with disabilities.
 

Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America Dedicated to finding the cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis by performing research studies. Also provides medical information on the disease, advice on diet and nutrition, treatment and surgery options, clinical trials, and referrals to physicians. Camp Oasis is an all-day summer camp program designed for kids with Crohn's disease or ulcerative Colitis, located throughout the U.S. Also provides an online community with forums, personal stories, and a resource center. There are local chapters and resources available.

Cure Autism Now Foundation Cure Autism Now is an organization of parents, physicians, and researchers, dedicated to promoting and funding research with direct clinical implications for treatment and a cure for autism. They have resources for parents that include a newsletter, possible clinical study participation, current research conducted on autism and other useful links.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – National
The CF Foundation provides medical information and awards funding for research on Cystic Fibrosis. The foundation also provides financial assistance in the form of college scholarships and Patient Assistance Programs for those who qualify. American Diabetes Association (ADA) The ADA is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. The mission of the organization is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. To fulfill this mission, the American Diabetes Association funds

DisabilityInfo.gov connects people with disabilities to the information and resources they need to actively participate in the workforce and in their communities.

Disability and Communication Access Board (DCAB) - A body of Governor appointed volunteers, including persons with disabilities and their family members, who advocate and promote the full integration, equal access, and quality of life for persons with disabilities. 

Disabled Children's Relief Fund - DCRF focuses special attention helping children throughout the U.S. that do not have adequate health insurance, especially the physically challenged.  In some cases, DCRF may be the last resort.

Discovery Toys - Educational toys for children of all ages including those with special needs.

Division of Vocational Rehabilitation - The Vocational Rehabilitation and Services for the Blind Division administers three programs that separate but related functions to provide for the rehabilitation needs of persons with disabilities to secure employment and to lead full and productive lives.

Dyslexia Help! - Dyslexia is a learning disability that hinders reading progress, which may affect 1 in 4 Americans.  Job Skills Training is offering "Catch Up With Reading" for people who have dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, slow learners, gifted, and students learning English as a second language.

Easter Seals - A non-profit, community based health organization dedicated to increasing the independence of children and adults with disabilities or other special needs.

Easter Seals Hawaii Sibshops - Brothers and sisters 6-12 of siblings with disabilities meet six times a year, usually on the 1st Saturday of the month from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.  Cost is $10 per child per Sibshop and includes lunch and all activities.  Call to register.

Families of SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy)
A national organization dedicated to research and development related to Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a form of muscular dystrophy that primarily affects children. The organization provides medical information on SMA, a forum to connect families with other people affected by SMA, advocacy, and referrals to other important SMA organizations. Also awards grants for researchers to accelerate the discovery of an effective treatment for SMA. There are 24 chapters throughout the U.S. holding numerous fundraising events, golf tournaments, galas, and more. They also provide support and assistance to local families and patients. Give Kids The World Villiage
Give Kids The World is a non-profit resort that creates magical memories for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Wish-granting organizations coordinate transportation to Orlando, while Give Kids The World provides accommodations at its whimsical resort, attractions tickets, and meals for a week-long fantasy vacation. Children ages 3-18, battling a life-threatening illness as deemed by a medical doctor are eligible, regardless of income. Families that visit Give Kids The World must be referred by a wish-granting organization or foundations.

 Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc
The Guide Dog Foundation matches students and guide dogs together. Students come from all over the U.S. and the world to undergo a 25-day training program to learn skills and commands needed to foster a successful working team. Upon graduation, student and guide dog return home together. There is no cost to the student for the training or dog. Travel within the U.S., Canada and Mexico will be paid and there are no fees for room and board during training
 

Hawaii Center for the Deaf & the Blind - Provides diagnostic and prescriptive services to all students with hearing and visual impairments, technical assistance to schools who are serving these students and a day or boarding program for select students as determined by their IEP.

Hawaii Disability Rights Center - Is the designated Protection and Advocacy (P&A) System for Hawaii's estimated 180,000 residents with disabilities.  P&A systems are authorized by Congress in each state and territory of the United States to defend and enforce the human, civil and legal rights of people with disabilities and to protect them from discrimination. 

Hawaii Down Syndrome Congress - Meets periodically on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon at 710 Green Street (Easter Seals) in Honolulu.  Call for dates.  Also publishes a newsletter of families.

Hawaii Families As Allies - A statewide parent-controlled family network organization, recognized in Hawaii and nationally as a voice on behalf of families of children and adolescents with emotional and/or behavioral challenges.

Hawaii Foster Parent Association - Provides information, training and support for foster/adoptive parents, including those who are caring for children with disabilities.  Provides a quarterly newsletter and sponsors an annual conference.

Hawaii Young Adults in Transition - We are a family support group on a mission to provide services and programs for teens and young adults with Asperger's Syndrome/autism spectrum disorders.
 

 Hearing loss Association of America – National
Provides information about assistive technology equipment, support groups, services, advocacy, and programs that help individuals cope with hearing loss. Information on the website is free. Hemophilia Parent Support - Provides parent-to-parent matching for parents whose children have hemophilia and activities for patients and families for networking and support.

Humanitarian Foundation - Grottos of North America - Dental Assistance Program
Provides free dental care for children under 18 with developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, mental disabilities, muscular dystrophy, autism spectrum, down syndrome or transplant patient. The Dental Care for Children with Special Needs Program has local Grotto representatives that are known as our "Dr of Smiles". These representatives are the liasion with the parents, dental offices and hospital and anesthesia offices when necessary, to see that all paperwork is provided and properly completed. They also file the application with the Humanitarian Foundation office where all cases are processed and he maintains contact with the parent and dentist. Hydrocephalus Association – National
National non-profit organization providing support, resources, education and advocacy for families and individuals dealing with the complexities of Hydrocephalus. Provides financial assistance for some medications, co-payments, therapy treatment, and transportation to treatment centers and for certain types of blood tests for those in need.
