Following his graduation from the University of California at Berkeley in 1972, Kirk began his business career. He has owned and operated several successful businesses in California and Hawaii.

Kirk transferred his management and business experience to Hawaii in 1979 and began his career in financial services in 1989. He has obtained his CFP® certification as well as earning the LUTCF (Life Underwriting Training Council Fellowship), CLU® (Chartered Life Underwriter), and his ChFC® (Chartered Financial Consultant) designations.

Being a Baby Boomer in his early 60's, Kirk naturally had questions regarding Social Security and Medicare.  Upon realizing the complexity of Social Security and Medicare (and the scarcity of Financial Planners who understand these systems nuances) he decided to specialize in these areas to better serve his clients.  Common questions include:

  • When is the best time to begin to collect social security benefits?
  • Will working affect my benefits?
  • How can I maximize my benefits?
  • What are spousal, divorced and survivor benefits?

Kirk's diverse experience has also led him to become a financial professional focusing on Special Needs Planning, helping families with dependents with special needs plan for the future as well as retirement strategies, business continuation strategies, and life insurance.  Kirk has special needs in his family and understands many of the challenges presented on both a daily and long term basis.  Special needs planning not only entails financial planning for the entire family, but also helps parents with special needs dependents answer the questions:

  • Who will take care of my child when I can't?
  • How will they have a good quality of life?
  • Will they be able to have government benefit eligibility?

He is a former Vice President for the Hawaii chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and a former member of the board of directors of the Arc in Hawaii.

He is a current member of the Arc in Hawaii.
